Bryan Pilgrim: Founder and Director of Bishop Street Recovery Ranch
Bryan Pilgrim, the founder and director of Bishop Street Recovery Ranch, has a deeply personal connection to the mission of helping men overcome addiction. For many years, Bryan struggled with his own addiction issues. His life took a transformative turn when he encountered the love of Jesus Christ while in a jail cell. This pivotal moment set him on a path to recovery and ultimately led to the establishment of the recovery ranch.
Establishing the Ministry
In October 2014, Bryan founded the ministry in a modest two-bedroom house on Bishop Street. With only $50 in his pocket, a cell phone, and a rented house, he welcomed the first four men into a home devoid of material comforts but filled with hope and faith. Through divine provision and community support, the house was soon furnished and stocked with food. Bryan’s determination and unwavering faith in God’s provision laid the foundation for what would become a thriving ministry.
Growth and Expansion
Under Bryan’s leadership, the ministry expanded significantly. In February 2016, the ranch moved to a 17.9-acre rural property, providing a more spacious and conducive environment for recovery. By August 2018, the ministry settled on a 15-acre property in Knickerbocker, TX, where a 6000-square-foot facility now houses up to 22 men. The recent completion of a 24-bed bunkhouse marks another milestone in the ministry’s growth, allowing men to stay for at least 120 days before transitioning back into the workforce.
Community Impact and Recognition
Bryan’s vision and leadership have garnered significant community support and recognition. The ministry’s efforts have been bolstered by successful fundraising events, such as the San Angelo Gives campaign, which recently contributed $45,373.44. Additionally, the ranch has engaged in community outreach, including visits from local schools to educate students about addiction and recovery.
A Holistic Approach to Recovery
Bryan’s approach to recovery is holistic, emphasizing spiritual growth, personal responsibility, and community integration. The residents at Bishop Street Recovery Ranch participate in daily Bible studies, individual counseling, and practical life skills training. Bryan’s commitment to providing a supportive and nurturing environment has helped many men rebuild their lives, restore family relationships, and find lasting freedom from addiction.
Personal Commitment
Bryan’s wife, Julie Pilgrim, serves as the Marketing Administrator of the ranch, working closely with him to support the residents. Julie, who previously served as a Chaplain for the Tom Green County Jail, brings her own experience and compassion to the ministry. Together, Bryan and Julie provide a powerful example of faith and dedication, guiding men toward a life of recovery and hope.
