Description
The Sea of Galilee is approximately 14 miles long, 7 miles wide, and 150 feet deep. In the background is the village of Magdala, home of Mary Magdalene (Luke 8:2). Rising high above the tiny village is Mt. Arbel where Jewish rebels sought refuge in its caves from Roman soldiers.
The sea is 690 feet below sea level and is part of the gray Syro-African fault line. As a result, hot mineral springs issue along the shores of the lake/ These springs have been famous for thousands of years for their healing powers.
Yet the greatest healing powers around the sea came some 2,000 years ago in the form of a man, Jesus of Nazareth. It was here that lepers were healed (Matt.8:1), demons cast out (Mark 5:1-21), parables taught (Luke 8:4-18), sermons preached ( Matt.5-7), storms calmed (Mark 4:35-41), multitudes fed (Mark 6:30-44: 8:1-9), and disciples called.
AND HE SAID TO THEM “FOLLOW ME AND I WILL MAKE YOU FISHERS OF MEN” Matt. 4:19 NASB
Our Savior called ordinary men to do an extraordinary task. All had problems – All had sins. Not a very likely group to turn the world upside down; and yet, that’s exactly what they did! I am a product of that work. What we must see is that it is not what we are that is the issue but what we are willing to become.
